Well, as of right now Gustav has behaved. My parents arrived safely last night around 7:15 pm. We all went to church this morning and then headed to the store for some very last minute items (ice and such). Walmart was closed! You know it's gonna be bad if a 24 hour store is closed! We also ate lunch out and my dad wanted to go and see the newest Bass pro shop right by our house. We were only able to stay for about 20 minutes though because they two were closing and boarding up for the storm. We came home and proceeded to pick up all of the "loose" items around the outside of the house, (and our neighbors since they didn't bother with any of their junk),cut the grass, and bathe the dogs.
As I type this I hear people outside nailing up bards over their windows. We did not do this and now I am a little worried. I hope the tape works well enough!
We did however postpone our trip to Disney. We are now going on September 20th. It is for the best. We will have a lot more fun when we won't have to worry about the house!
If I can, I will update tomorrow. They are saying we may loose power for about a week....I hope we have enough gas for the generator!

"Why?"
That is obviously Jacobs' new favorite word, and boy does it get old fast! I try to tell myself that he is inquisitive, and that it is a good thing. But after 10 or 12 "why mama?" it gets a little old!
For example...on Wednesday we all (the 3 of us) went to the gas station because Mike felt it necessary to purchase and fill up 8 big red gas tank holders full of gas (my husband, always prepared=)). The first gas station cut us off at $100, so we had to drive to another one to finish filling the gas holders (this is not what they are really called, I have no idea what the real terminology for them is, but you know what I am talking about. The big red things that they sell in Walmart, Home Depot, etc that people fill with gas for their lawn mowers and such). This started the "why?" session.
Jacob: "mama, why are we at a new gas station?"
Me: "Because we need more gas baby"
Jacob: "Why?"
Me: "Because Hurricane Gustav is coming"
Jacob: "Why?"
Me: (not sure how to answer this) "Because there is a storm out in the Gulf
of Mexico and it is coming here"
Jacob: "Mesh-e-co??? Where is it"
me: "I will have to show you on a map baby"
Jacob: "Why?"
Me: "Because it is not something you can see from our car"
Jacob: "Why?"
Me: "Because it is too big, I will show you on a map when we get home"
Jacob: "Where is the map?"
Me: "In your closet"
Jacob "Why?"
Me (about to loose all control) "JACOB!!!!! Please be quiet man, we are about to
leave!"
This is just one of many "Why" conversations in one day...lucky me=)
I do have to say though, if it helps my man learn something new, and he is showing interest, then I will suffer through the "Whys".....
On a side note, we still don't know much about the exact path that the Hurricane will take. It is all speculation. We won't do anything about our trip until Monday. We may have to try to reschedule it for later in the month. We'll see. They moved up the LSU game to 10am to give people the time to evacuate if they want to. Die hard fans will NOT miss a game...hurricane or not!
Have a great Labor Day, and for those of you in Gustav's path, stay safe!

craziness!!
I must say, the people around here get quite frantic with the threat of a possible hurricane (including my husband!). Who can blame them though. After Hurricane Katrina, everyone is on high alert. Hurricane Gustav is being projected to make landfall sometime Monday. They are not sure of the exact path it will take yet, but the people here sure aren't waiting around to find out!
Mike, Jacob and I went to Walmart the past 2 nights (Tuesday and Wednesday) and it was a mad dash to get water, batteries, and bread. Every can of tuna and every can of beans were gone already, and the gas stations were packed. One of our good friends found us a window unit in case we loose power for a long time. Thank goodness we already have a generator, as there are none to be found!
It is mass confusion right now. We still don't know if we are going to Disney, I guess Gustav will keep us posted....

Go away Gustav!!!!
Oh no, this storm better NOT conflict with our trip to Disney! How bad would that suck?!?!? I guess we will just have to wait and see what path it takes. Hopefully it will die down and just dwindle away into a nothing little storm. I just watched the news though, and they are also watching 2 other storms out there....great!

9 days till Disney!!!
As you can tell by the title, we are Disney bound next Wednesday!!! We went this time last year for Jacobs first trip and we had a blast! We are beyond excited!
This weekend was jam packed. We traveled in town to pick up Jacob from his grandparents (where he had way too much fun!). We spent most of the day there and returned home just before the Saints game. I am a DIE HARD saints and LSU fan, so to be in the car at the start of the game was completely stressful to me (does not matter that it was pre-season=)). On Saturday morning we did finally purchase a new desk so that I have something to scrapbook on.
I spent Sunday shopping at Target to gather things to go on my huge desk. The weather was awful so we stayed in most of the day. Jacob came down with a yucky runny nose and a slight cough, so I guess it was good we stayed home=)
I hope to have some new pictures up soon. Mom and I took Jacob to toys r us to spend his gift certificate from cousins Maggie and Marley from his birthday. He insisted on a vacuum witch he will NOT let go of! I will get some pictures of him vacuuming the house....

missing our boy...
Well, Jacob is with all of his grandparents for the next few days. He is blessed (as are we) with wonderful grandparents/ great grandparents who fight over him!!!! He will see Granny and Grandpa, Gigi and Pawpaw, and Grancie in the next day or so. Mike and I will drive in on Saturday to pick him up. I am using this time to scrapbook, as I cannot do it while he is home!
I work tomorrow and we are going to try to catch a movie tomorrow night.
Have a good weekend.

We're still alive!
I know it's been a few days......
Yay!!! My good friend Kim finally sent some pictures from this past weekend. Hopefully I will have more soon. We went to an LSU tailgating party to prepare for the kickoff of football season. The weather was AWFUL on the drive there, but soon stopped once we arrived. We had lots of fun!! Kim's dad, along with her uncle plan some pretty hilarious games....and that might explain the chicken in Jacob's hand=)

silly pictures ;)
A few cute pics from today....
The first 2 are of Jacob in one of my most favorite outfits of his. Every piece came from a different store. I get lots of compliments whenever he wears this, so I had to nab a picture of it=)
The last picture is of Jacob and daddy playing in his new fire truck tent from Granny. He drives this thing all over the house. It is hilarious.

Pure exhaustion!
What a week! I have worked at my new job the past 3 days, and I am completely exhausted!!! I guess it is because my body is used to working at night, as I have worked nights for the past 6 years. I have only been working 8 hour days, but it feels like I am working 24 hour ones! By the time I pick Jacob up from school and get home, I am ready for bed=) I'm sure in a few weeks I will adjust and I will be good to go.
I really like the new position though, and I LOVE the hours!
I have Jacob home with me today and this morning he was playing on his new easel (thanks Gigi!). I asked him to draw his Grancie, and this is what he drew. Now keep in mind, I was doing the dishes while he was drawing, so he did this completely unassisted. I was totally impressed with my little artist! She even has hair!!
The little yellow face above 'Grancie' is daddy=)
His name at the bottom was pretty much all him....he needs complete assistance with the 'b' and some help with the 'c'.

Party pictures...
A wonderful day it was! Jacob had the BEST time!
Our day started at 730am, when the spacewalk was delivered! He went outside in his PJ's and jumped in that spacewalk all morning. Mike and I went out with him for a while, and boy, did we get some major exercising!!! After 10 minutes in that thing we were all sweating. I guess it doesn't help that here in the south it is 95 degrees out at 8am=)
I had attempted the day before to make him a 3-d firetruck cake which I was going to put on top of a big 11x15 sheet cake. I was NOT happy with the way it turned out (after 5 hours of attempting to make it meet my expectations), so I broke down and ordered him a cookie cake. The first few pictures are of my futile attempt at his cake.
People started arriving around 245pm. We had 14 kids total and they all had a blast. Between the spacewalk, Jacob's swing set, and his new baseball tee they did not ever want to come inside! They did wander in to his room for a few minutes every half hour or so to cool down, but all in all our house (and his room) stayed pretty clean! (A successful party in my eyes).
After they played for a while, we did cake, ice cream, and presents which Jacob was completely engrossed in this year. It was so much fun to watch him get excited over each and every present! He got some really neat toys, including sports related toys which he definitely needed.
After presents they all headed back out to play. I completely forgot until there were only 5 kids left, that I had bought a pinata!!! So needless to say the 5 remaining kids made out great and got TONS of sugar to take home with them=) What we thought was so funny though was that Jacob, along with the other small children, were very picky about what candy they wanted in their bags. He would throw out the 'yucky' candy and only a select few made it in to their bags! I guess they will learn next time, when there are older kids around, you grab what you can or you won't get any!!
Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the day. Enjoy...
A big THANK YOU to everyone who came and celebrated Jacobs' special day with us!

my last night shift....
Well here it is, 430 in the am and I am at work, obviously having a little "down time!" This is my last night shift, at least for a long while. I start the new job on Monday. Some of my good friends brought a GIGANTIC cookie cake up here to bid me farewell=(
Very bittersweet...I will miss the babes.
On another note, Jacobs party is Saturday and I have a ton of stuff to do today, no rest for the weary=) I called the local fire department today (late I know) to see about getting a real fire truck out to the house for his party. No such luck. They don't so that sort of thing anymore. Oh well, my boy will have a blast in the spacewalk we rented for him. I don't think I had even mentioned to him the possibility of a truck coming out anyways.
See y'all Saturday!

Let's party!
Here are the pictures from our day yesterday....
Despite my best efforts, this blogger does what it wants too and put the pictures in a totally random order=(
We started our morning with a breakfast fit for a king. Jacob had cinnamon toast, scrambled eggs with cheese, and a pancake! Following breakfast he requested to go and ride the carousel at the mall. So off we went. Upon arriving at the mall he ate lunch (the chicken and fruit pictures) and rode the carousel. We then went down to the play area for quite a while, then back upstairs for ice cream with sprinkles!
Last night Mike and I sang happy birthday to our big man and gave him our present (our true present to him was his new swing set, but I just had to give him something on his big day).
He was so excited, jumping all around....and then said "what is it???" I wish I would have had the video camera!
All in all, a great day was had.
Now we have to clean up for the party on Saturday!

donate for a cause
Hey everyone....if you get a second, please visit this website and consider donating for a good cause. I have been linked to this site for a few months now (since March or so) from a friend of mine at work. This guy and his wife...and their preemie daughter have gone through a really rough time, especially in the last few months. His name is Nathan Lawrenson and this is a piece from his blog:
CFHusband Goes Bald
In support of my wife, Tricia, and in honor of both my brother-in-law, Jeff Prentice, I'm challenging my family, friends and blog readers to help me raise no less than $3000 in 1 week for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
If I can raise $3000 by noon next Friday (August 8, 2008), I will shave my head, live on the Internet at 8pm that night (all times are EST).
The LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. Last year, LLS funded more than $64 million in research, with more than $7 million going towards 18 active research projects at Duke and UNC.
LLS also provides several resources to their patients, including Family Support Groups and a Patient Financial Aid Program.
I have to warn you...I have shaved my head (and by "shave", I do mean with a razor) once before, and I've been told that I might have one of the ugliest heads in the history of the world, which is bizarre considering the rest of me is so beautiful...
To participate in the worldwide effort to make me bald and beautiful, simply Click Here and follow the online instructions.
OR
Mail a check, made out to "LLS", with "CFHusband Goes Bald" in the memo line to:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
401 Harrison Oaks Blvd., Ste. 200
Cary, NC 27513
Every penny we raise (under or over $3000) goes directly to the LLS, and if you have any questions about this fundraiser, feel free to contact the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of LLS.

I also have a link to their site in the left hand column of my blog....
Thanks!
