Woohoo!! We leave Sunday morning for our (much needed) vacation....
Mike is excited beyond words=) He called home yesterday and told me "I got us a surprise for the trip", of course I started trying to guess what it was, and he simply said "you'll see it when I get home". ARGH! The suspense killed me. Mike is THE BEST gift giver so I knew it would be good. Low and behold it 'twas!! He purchased us a sweet new digital camera!! It is way smaller than the other two (yes, we have two others...) that we have. Very slender and lightwieght with a larger viewing screen. I love it!
Of course my little man wants to get all involved in the excitement of a new "toy" and did not understand why I would not let him play with it. So we pulled out his Mickey mouse digital camera that he got for his birthday. He was happy as a clam taking pictures of the floor, walls, and randomely blurred objects that he would capture as he ran around the room being the photographer that he is. Explain to me this, since when do they make DIGITAL cameras for toddlers??? I mean, it is a real camera, just toddler proof. How awesome would that have been when we were little!! No, we were blessed with the long, skinny 8mm cameras that took an actual roll of film....
Jacob is SO excited that we are going to see Mickey. He has been carrying around his "Mickey airplane backpack" for the past 2 days, stuffing toys and such in to it.
I have him completely packed and Mike and I will pack tomorrow.
On a side note, we are pretty sure the neighbors are not returning to their home (being that they had a pretty nasty split and we saw the moving van and all...). We have been cutting their grass and, without going in to to much detail, we are figuring the house will be a foreclosure and will just sit there for about a year before it goes to police auction!!! SO I guess we have another lawn to mow for the time being.
This will probobly be my last post until we get home. For all those that are having parties that we are missing (and there are lots), we appologize ahead of time and wish your children very happy birthdays!!!
tata for now....

5 more days!!!
FIVE days until Disney!!!!
We just found out that our neighbors will be there the EXACT same time as us! So we have plans to take all of the kids to the Halloween party while we are there.
Jacob will go as Buzz Lightyear in Disney, but will be a fireman (I think) on Halloween night. I ask him what he wants to be and he says "A witch".....WHAT???? I don't think so!!! He is slightly obsessed with witches right now. Every time we go in to Walmart he asks to see the big witch (they have a large animated witch over by the Halloween stuff), but is quick to tell me that witches are scary. He would NEVER wear a witch costume, even if I was willing to buy him one=)
On another note, my dad had surgery today for his carpal tunnel, which I fear will be in my future when I am a little older too! I had it pretty bad when I was pregnant. He did great during the surgery and is at home in the oh so sweet land of delirium=)
Well, off I go to pick up the little guy from school.

dinner time prayers
More cuteness!!! I have been meaning to capture Jacob's little prayers on video for a while. He is rarely willing to say them for the camera, but I got lucky tonight=)
Just in case you cannot decipher what he is saying, the first prayer is:
"Bless us O Lord,
for these thy gifts,
which we are about to receive,
from thy bounty,
through Christ Our Lord, Amen."
The second is his prayer from school:
"God Our Father, God Our Father
We thank You, we thank You
For our many blessings, for our many blessings
Amen, Amen"

Boy stuff
Yesterday while watching the Saints play (good game, but my boys couldn't make it happen in the end=( )and painting my nails, I suggested to Mike that he take Jacob and do something 'manly'. Let me back up here....Mike is an avid football fan, especially for LSU. I, however, am a football freak for LSU and the Saints. It was an odd scene yesterday with Mike slouched back on the couch and me sanding, jumping, and yelling at the TV during the game!!! During the first half (the NOT so good half) I pulled out the nail polish to distract myself from the game. Jacob took notice and thought it would be a good time to help mommy pick out the newest color for her toes. That's when I suggested something manly for my boys=) This is what they did during the second half of the game. Jacob followed Mike around like a little mini me....Like father like son!
Jesus loves me
How cute is this! This is actually the second video I got of him singing this little song. In the first one (the cuter one) I had turned the camera longways and when I put the video on the computer, that is how it displayed...sideways=( I figured it would be annoying to have to turn your head (or your computer) to see him upright! Enjoy the preciousness that is our son=)

Happy Friday!
I got my hair cut and highlighted (finally) today and then spent the afternoon cleaning and mopping. Jacob helped me mow our yard, while Mike mowed the neighbors yard (long story short....they basically abandoned their house when they separated about a month and a half ago and their grass was over Jacob's head...). We went to Chili's for dinner where, after eating well, Jacob was all about scarfing down the molten lava chocolate cake!
Tomorrow Jacob and I are headed in to town for my cousins baby shower, and then back home to watch LSU kick Auburn butt=)
Happy Friday all!

Disney or bust!!!
10 days until we go......it is really gonna happen this time! No more threats of hurricanes cancelling our trip. Get ready Mickey, here we come=)
Just hanging at home
Jacob and I are just hanging around the house today. We had a repair man come to fix a cracked tile this morning and it took him over 2 hours!!! It did give me ample time to get the house clean though because Jacob was glued to that mans side while he worked! I am sure the worker LOVED having him ask questions about what he was doing for most of the time he was working, but hey, it gave me plenty of time to get things done in a speedier fashion than usual!
While the man was using one of his big loud tools I was pleasantly puking in the sink....I know you are thinking "my day was not complete without that thought"...but I had to type it, because I am in awe that I actually vomited just because I took my vitamins on a somewhat empty stomach. I usually feel nauseous right after taking them, whether I eat or not, but to actually vomit because of them......wow!
Now that you have a look of disgust on your face I will leave you with this cute little story. I promised Jacob that we could have a picnic outside for lunch. I should have recorded the look on his face when I told him. He was beyond excited and just giddy all throughout lunchtime that we sat up in his clubhouse outside to eat=)
Well, I am off to make some baked cinnamon apples for my guys for after dinner tonight.

a silly day
Well, more like a silly afternoon=)
I worked this morning, until 230pm. I stopped by the Dollar Tree because I saw that they had some cheap little costumes. I have been searching for something like this for a while now because Jacobs little preschool has what they call "centers" and one of the centers is an imagination center. The kids basically play dress up. They have all sorts of princess stuff, hats, purses, shoes for the girls but hardly anything for the boys. In fact, I have seen (more than once) 2 of the boys dressed up in dresses......Not my child!!
So into the Dollar Tree I went and I hit the jackpot! I snatched up a precious little police man hat and shield, army hat and shield and a knights attire (which you see Jacob dressed in - I got one for him at home too). Jacob was not too keen on the idea of dressing as a knight. Not that he knows what a knight is, but when mommy put it on she looked scary so he didn't want it on! I finally convinced him to try it and nabbed a couple of pictures before he pulled it off.
After that, Mike and Jacob decided to plant the satsuma tree we bought over the weekend. I have been bugging Mike for a fruit tree for a while, I love the way they smell. We found one at a produce stand for a very reasonable price on Sunday.
After they planted the tree Jacob thought it would be great fun to run around the yard like the silly boy that he is. I don't know if it was the cooler weather or what ( it was a VERY nice 73 degrees out) but he was wired=)
Enjoy the pictures and video!

a pretty good weekend
not too much to report in our small corner of the world. We had a good weekend, one of relaxation! After the last two weekends dealing with hurricanes, we needed a calm few days!
On Saturday Mike and I FINALLY got back to the gym....it has been way too long.....
We also watched LSU kick some North Texas butt on Saturday night. We had to pay to see the game on tigervision, but it was worth every penny of the $35.00 we paid=)
This morning we went to church and ran around town trying to find Mike a new weed eater. His completely broke on Saturday. We also watched the Saints loose today (to the Redskins), a sad sight it was. I am still a die hard Saints fan though. One day, hopefully in my lifetime, they will make it to the Superbowl....wishful thinking, right!
Tonight after dinner, Jacob had a brownie and a cinnamon roll (we ate at a pizza buffet). We then made a quick trip to Walmart where the child was literally break dancing in the middle of the store for all to see. He was on a major sugar high! That brownie must have had some major sugar because sweets don't usually do that to him. At least he went to bed without a fuss.
Well, off I go to catch some down time before bed. G'night all!

remember
There isn't much to report today, except that each time I wrote the date (which is A LOT) throughout the day, I said a small prayer for those who lost their lives on this day 7 years ago. Please take a moment today and pray for the families broken by September 11th.

Not quite ready....
After taking a bath last night I told Jacob that it was time to put on his diaper and jammies because it was bedtime (he still sleeps in a diaper), to which he replied "I am not a baby". So I asked him if he wanted to try sleeping in underwear. His response was yes, so we gave it a go. He has woken up dry every morning for over 3 months now so I thought we were pretty safe. Boy was I wrong!! For some reason he woke up at 4am covered in urine....literally! He was so wet he was shivering! I had to strip him and his bed down and replace jammies, sheets, and his pillow! The joys of being a mom=) So he is back in diapers tonight.
On a side not, he has been giving us fits at dinner time, taking a few bites and playing with the rest of his food. I don't really mind this, but tell him he cannot have anything else to eat before bedtime. Mike gets a little more frustrated but tells him the same thing. I always said I would never bribe my child with dessert but it sure does work. He will finally finish dinner and then gobbles up his jello. I guess he has my sweet tooth=)
It also looks like Ike is moving further and further away from us (yay). NOT that I want it to hit somewhere else, I would much prefer for it to die completely before hitting land. I don't think NOLA , Baton Rouge, or any of La could take much more storm damage. We are still recovering from Katrina!
Well, back to work for me tomorrow, I must get some sleep. G'night all.

Let there be light!!!!
Although I am a bit late posting this, we did get our power back on Saturday!!!! YAY ELECTRICITY! You just don't realize how good you have it until you loose it!
Jacob and I were still with my parents down in Kenner when Mike called to tell me our power was back about mid day on Saturday. He was planning on coming in to meet us and stay for the weekend to return home on Monday night. He was going to pack our refrigerator since the generator wouldn't be running without anyone home and lug all of the food to my moms refrigerator. Thank goodness he had not done that yet!
He decided to go ahead and come in so we could go to dinner and a movie with my parents. Grancie kept Jacob and we went to see the newest Batman movie "The Dark Knight". They failed to mention that the air conditioner was broken, so we sat through a THREE hour movie in the heat!!!!!! Mike and my dad were NOT happy! But the movie was really good....the best Batman yet in my opinion.
Sunday we just sort of hung around the house, went to church and watched the Saints game (GEAUX SAINTS). Jacob and I returned home yesterday and Mike last night. It was awesome to sleep in our own bed!
Oh yes....we rescheduled our Disney trip (again) for September 28th!!!!
I included some pictures from the past week. One is of our sleeping arrangement at out house during Gustav and how we kept ourselves occupied while pent up in the house. My dad was wearing Jacob's safety goggles! The next few show some of the aftermath of Gustav by my parents house. This was not even half of the debris once we were done cleaning the yard. I took the picture after one day of post hurricane pickup. What you see by the street are not bushes, they are piled up tree limbs from the backyard. The neighbor also had 2 trees that were very much threatening to topple over on to my parents roof. They called a tree cutting service to come cut them both down before Ike strikes. There was a HUGE beehive and honeycomb inside of the tree trunk, but I could not get close enough (or was not brave enough) to take a picture! We still had another whole day of cleaning tree limbs out of the yard. I also have a picture of the neighbors leaning fence and of Jacob on his "thinking chair" reading a book.
Now if we can only convince Ike that he is not as strong as he thinks.....

Still no power=(
Here we are, still in Kenner with the parents! According to Mike (who is still back at home working, but coming here for the weekend) the news is saying it will be at least Tuesday before we have electricity. No big deal I guess, especially since I am not due back at work until Thursday!
Hurricane Ike is getting closer every day though, and we are afraid that just as soon as we get power back we will loose it again.....
Jacob is enjoying all of his time with his grandparents! He sure does get spoiled when he is with them=) That's what grandparents are for....right?!?!?
We spent the bulk of yesterday trying to clean up my parents backyard. There were tree limbs everywhere. I took lots of pictures, but am not too sure how to get them on my dad's computer, I will experiment with that later on.
Most of the stores and malls have reopened for business today and Mike and I are going to try to go to a movie tonight.
Have a good weekend=)

we're still here!
Well, we survived Gustav, but we are still feeling his after shocks.
We lost power at our place around 1:15 pm on Monday. We hooked up the generator around 3 pm. Thanks to Mike's quick thinking skills, we had snatched up about 40 gallons of gas earlier in the week and were storing it in our garage to run the generator in a situation like this. This turned out to be a godsend. We ran everything in the house except for the central air conditioner. We were very careful when we used the microwave and we avoided the stove, oven, washer, dryer, and hair dryers completely. We did hook up a window unit so we had enough air conditioning to keep us from sweating. We slept very comfortably, all piled up in the living room (I will post pictures soon!).
As of today (Wednesday), we still have no electricity. Mike is working during the day and running the generator at night to keep himself cool. Jacob and I came back in to Kenner with my parents to their house since they have complete restoration of power and TV! I do not have to work again until next Thursday, so we may be here until then, or until we have electricity back home. Whichever comes first=)
We drove around town for a bit yesterday and took in all of the damage. It was more wind damage than anything. 100% of the surrounding areas are out of power and it was seriously a mad dash to get gas for your generator. Thank goodness Mike had us well prepared in that area. Walmart reopened yesterday (it had closed on Sunday) and they were only letting a few people in at a time to avoid a stampede. The line of people waiting to get in seemed at least a mile long. We saw tons of trees blown over and a few fences and roofs of homes were damaged. Overall it was not too bad. The worst was/is the thousands of people without power.
Thank you for thinking of us, I will post pics soon!
